Joachim Löw: "An easy win for us"

The reigning world champions maintained their perfect start to World Cup qualification with a 2-0 home win against Northern Ireland. Naturally satisfied with the win, Joachim Löw and Co. had plenty of positives after the match. DFB.de has rounded up all the reaction:

Joachim Löw: We fulfilled our task: six points from the two games and zero goals conceded. The goals came quickly, it was an easy win for us. Northern Ireland stood very deep, it became difficult to play against as the game went on. The Northern Irish gave very little away at the back, they stood firm even after going behind. At times we were a bit careless and gave away 1-on-1 situations. We didn’t close them off quickly enough.

Manuel Neuer: Our objective was to play a good game. We were better against Czech Republic, the Northern Irish made it more difficult for us. In the second half we controlled the game completely and gave away very little. We could probably have done with a third goal to come away completely satisfied. We know from the last World Cup qualifying campaign that anything can happen and we still have dangerous games ahead of us. We take things from match to match and obviously hope to rake in the points.

Sami Khedira: As in the first two games, we were very concentrated and aggressive. We played high up and gave our opponents very little room to counter. We can be satisfied, in the second half we perhaps ran out of steam a little, but it was a very satisfying win. For me it is important that I can offer the team a presence and that we are successful.

Thomas Müller: You could see that we wanted it. We carried the momentum from the Czech Republic game into this one. It was a different game to that one in Hamburg. Northern Ireland went 2-0 down very quickly but still fought tooth and nail until the very last second. You obviously get a little tired as time goes on and you are constantly running. We are happy with the win, as our opponent didn’t make it easy for us

Toni Kroos: We were fantastic in the opening 30 minutes and the game was decided in that period. Northern Ireland didn’t try to score at all. In the second half they sat so far back that it was almost impossible to get behind them. One thing that distinguishes them is that they play their game from the first to the very last minute.

Mario Götze: We played very, very well right from the off. We scored goals early on and gave ourselves breathing space. We enjoy playing in front of our own fans. Everyone knows what we need to do. It’s fun.
