Hendrich: “Impose our game on Russia”

With the DFB Women preparing for their third and last group game against Russia on Tuesday (20:45 CEST), Kathrin Hendrich and Leonie Maier speak to DFB.de about the tough task ahead and what they will need to make it through to the quarter-finals.

Kathrin Hendrich on…

… the match against Russia: It will be a completely new game. The opposition will demand that we be at our best. We need to impose our game on Russia. There are no easy matches at the Euro. We want to dominate and especially to be compact. We need to be calmer at the back and more tenacious going forward. We need to concentrate more once we make it into the final third to create chances and then take them.

… the starting XI: I am not thinking too much about that. I am only concentrating on training and am trying to give it my all there. In the end, the coaches decide who plays.

… the lessons learned from the Italy match: The coaching staff were very clear and matter of fact in their analysis. We are talking with each other about our game as well us discussing our mistakes.

… the chemistry in the team: We all get on very well in the team but everyone is really focused. As soon as the matches start, we are all on it.

… their surroundings in the Netherlands: We have everything here that we need. There have still not been many opportunities to go and see the town. The Dutch people are very hospitable. We feel very comfortable.

Leonie Maier on…

… the match against Russia: This will be similarly as tricky as the game against Italy. We need to be alert from the first minute to the last and win our tackles if we want to leave the field as the victors.

… their preparation for the match: We will be working intently on shooting in training. It is important that we go into the match with patience, create chances and then make the most of them.

… the pressure on the team: Of course there is a certain pressure there. We have started the tournament decently with four points and are fully concentrating on the match against Russia. I am confident that we can still raise our level.
