Gomez and Fiorentina on course for last 16

Germany international Mario Gomez and his Fiorentina teammates are on course for the last 16 of the UEFA Europa League. They drew 1-1 against Tottenham Hotspur in London, thus giving them the all important away goal. Roberto Soldado gave Spurs the lead after six minutes but José Maria Basanta equalised for the Italians with ten minutes to play in the first half. Gomez had a great chance to put Fiorentina in front after 69 minutes but was unable to convert. He was brought off shortly before the break.

Liverpool came out on top in a tight match against Besiktas. Mario Balotelli’s 85th minute gave Emre Can’s side victory. Kevin Kuranyi played for Dynamo Moscow in their 0-0 draw with RSC Anderlecht, who didn’t include loanee Marko Marin.

Celtic level late on against Inter

Inter Milan look on course to qualify even though they conceded an injury time equaliser against Celtic last night. Former Bayern star Xherdan Shaqiri (5’) gave Inter the lead, which was doubled eight minutes later by Rodrigo Palacio. Stuart Armstrong got one back after 24 minutes; Hugo Campagnaro’s own goal levelled the scores seconds later. Palacio got his second of the evening soon after the leveller. John Guidetti made it 3-3 in injury time.

SSC Napoli (4-0 winners over Trabzonspor) and Everton, who won 4-1 in Bern thanks to Romelu Lukaku’s hat trick, look likely to progress to the next round. Other teams on course to progress are Club Brugge (3-1 winners in Aalborg), Dnipro (Who won 2-0 against Olympiakos) and Zenit St. Petersburg (1-0 victory away to PSV).

Athletico Bilbao drew 2-2 with Torino, Villarreal beat Salzburg 2-1 and AS Roma drew 1-1 with Feyenoord.
