World Cup winners Mario Götze and André Schürrle are up for voting for the 2014 Goal of the Year from ARD-Sportschau. Fans can vote on the Sportschau website from 4th until 24th February or by phone.
Among others nominated for the gong, are Götze’s winning goal in the World Cup Final: Götze, who was subbed on in the 88th minute, sent the whole of Germany into euphoria with a spectacular goal in front of 74,738 fans in the Marcana in Rio de Janeiro. The Bayern attacker took down the ball with his chest following a André Schürrle cross and duly converted it like a goalscorer.
Attacker Schürrle also put his hat in the ring following his mesmerising backheel goal in the World Cup quarterfinal against Algeria. Schürrle struck the decisive goal in extra time in the 92nd minute to make it 2-1 to Germany.
