Germany Women improved their chances of making the quarter-finals of the Women’s European Championships in Holland with a 2-1 win over Italy on Friday night.
Steffi Jones’s side picked up their first group B game win at the second attempt after drawing their opener with Sweden earlier in the week.
Josephine Henning and Babett Peter, both central defenders, got the goals either side of a Illaria Mauro equaliser before half time.
Henning headed home just before the half hour and Peter converted a penalty with 20 minutes to go to mean Germany sit level with Sweden on four points in the group with the one final group match against Russia to come.
