Germany beat England to win Algarve tournament

The German U 17 national team have won the international tournament at the Algarve. The Team of coach Paul Schomann beat England 3-1 (0-1) on Tuesday.

At Guia in front of 100 spectators England took the lead as Jonathan Franks scored in 13th minute. In the second half Marvin Knoll (51.) marked the equalizer with a header after a cross by Henning Sauerbier.

Five minutes later Sauerbier (56.) scored the lead with a shot from 16 meters. Sascha Bigalke (70.) scored a penalty kick after he had been fouled. For Bigalke it was the third goal in tournament.

Knoll) In the first match of the tournament Germany beat France 2-0 on Saturday. Against host Portugal the german Team drawed 1-1 on Sunday.

"In spite of the bad ground conditions this has been our best performance of the tournament. We played offensive football par excellence“, told Schomann after the match: “We had the better abilities in the first half, had a low and got the goal against. After that my team proved fighting spirit and controlled the game. The goals were a logical consequence."
