Erfurt deny Cottbus victory

The third division resumed on Saturday; Energie Cottbus were denied the perfect start after suffering a 2-0 defeat in Erfurt. A victory could have seen them jump into second place, but instead they drop to seventh. André Laurito (37’) and Carsten Kammlott (59’ pen) provided the goals in Erfurt’s victory, which takes them to sixth place, level on points with Cottbus.

MSV Duisburg profited from Cottbus’ defeat. They clinched a 2-1 away victory against Hallescher FC. Duisburg, now in second place, were given an early advantage as Pierre Kleinheider converted a seventh-minute penalty, conceded by Halle’s new signing and goalkeeper Niklas Lomb, who was also sent off. The hosts controlled the game afterwards but were also reduced to ten men, when Kevin Wolze picked up his second yellow card of the game (79’). Kingsley Onuegbu (90’+3’) gave them a two goal lead, with Timo Furuholm pulling one back for Halle just seconds later.

Rostock and Jahn celebrate

Hansa Rostock and Jahn Regensburg were given renewed hope in their battle against relegation. Rostock secured a 2-1 victory in Wiesbaden thanks to Marcel Ziemer (50’) and Kai Schwertfeger (62’). David Blacha’s goal in the 78th minute got Wiesbaden back into the game, but Rostock held on to their lead and are now just one point adrift of safety.

Bottom-side Regensburg grabbed a vital 3-0 victory against fellow relegation candidates Borussia Dortmund II. Markus Palionis (27’) scored the opener; Dortmund’s skipper David Solga was sent off towards the end of the first half. Kolja Pusch (65’) and Marcel Hofrath (90’+1’) completed the scoring in the second half. Regensburg are six points from safety.

Chemnitz end poor run of form

Chemnitzer FC managed to end their losing sequence thanks to a 3-1 victory against Fortuna Köln. Marc Endres (23’) and Philip Türpitz (26’) put Chemnitz ahead early on, but Florian Hörnig reduced the deficit in the 29th minute. The second half was an intense affair, with Fortuna pushing for an equaliser. Anton Fink’s goal with two minutes left to play killed off the game.

Holstein Kiel were held to a 1-1 draw by VfB Stuttgart II. Manuel Schäffler (8’) put Holstein ahead but Borys Tashchy (9’) equalised immediately. Chances were frequent but no one was able to break the deadlock.
