Draxler, Gündogan and ter Stegen called up for EURO

Newcomers Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Julian Draxler as well as one-time-international Ilkay Gündogan were the surprise nominees for the provisional squad of 27 German players for the EURO 2012 in Poland and Ukraine, presented by Team Manager Joachim Löw in Rastatt. The final squad of 23 will be announced on May 29.

Apart from Mönchengladbach goalie ter Stegen, Schalke midfielder Draxler und Dortmund midfielder Gündogan, 24 approved internationals , led by skipper Philipp Lahm, will start the preparation for the tournament from Friday on.

Without Aogo, Träsch and Rolfes

Three players, Dennis Aogo, Christian Träsch and Simon Rolfes, who still belonged to the team in January, were not called upon by Joachim Löw.

Gündogan has won his first and only cap until now on October 11, 2011 in the EC-qualifier against Belgium (3-1). Without a cap so far are under 21-goalie ter Stegen and Schalke's talented midfielder Draxler.
