DFB and FA expand cooperation

The German Football Association (DFB) and The FA have agreed to expand their cooperation. As part of Prince William and his wife Kate’s visit to Germany, the Royal couple met with DFB general secretary Dr. Friedrich Curtius during a celebration for the Queen’s birthday at the British ambassador’s residence in Berlin. An agreement was reached to expand the collaboration, which has been in place since March 2017, to include the treatment and prevention of mental illness in professional sport. A significant aspect of that will be sharing experiences of the work done by the Robert Enke Foundation with the colleagues from The FA.

It’s a topic that Prince William, who is also president of The FA, his brother Prince Harry and the Duchess of Cambridge Kate are very interested in. They consider the work that the Robert Enke Foundation is doing exemplary, and this trip to Germany has given them the chance to learn about it first-hand. Teresa Enke was an invited guest at the British ambassador’s residence in Berlin, presenting the projects and initiatives that the foundation is behind, and outlining the opportunities that the cooperation will create in the future.

“Mental illness among professional sportsmen and women isn’t a German phenomenon,” said Dr. Friedrich Curtius. “Pressure and expectation levels in other countries can also lead to mental-health problems. Treatment, prevention and assistance is as important in England as it is here, and we’re happy to offer support. We’re delighted that the incredible work of the Robert Enke Foundation is recognised and appreciated in England.”
