Women's U19s finish with a victory

The DFB women’s U19s exited the European U19 Championship in Slovakia with a victory in their final group match. Maren Meinert’s team triumphed 3-1 over Austria in the duel between the two teams in Group B who were yet to pick up points.

“It was another tough game against equal opposition. We are obviously happy that we won but we still have work to do ahead of the World Cup,” explained Meinert after her team’s final European Championship match, she continued: “The fact that we were not technically or tactically more convincing than the Austrians is something to think about.”

Ehegötz breaks the deadlock

Nina Ehegötz of Allianz women’s Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen opened the scoring for Germany shortly before half time before Laura Freigang (Pennsylvania State University) doubled the lead after the restart. Stefanie Sanders (Werder Bremen) added the third in the 73rd minute. Austria managed a consolation goal in the 84th minute to round off the scoring.

Spain will face the Netherlands in the semi-finals on 28th July after beating Switzerland 5-0 in the duel for first place in the group. Switzerland, who finished second because of the loss, will face Group A winners France on the same day. The final will be played on 31st July in Senec.
