The Women’s national team secured their place in the history books after winning the gold medal at the Rio Olympics. The 2-1 victory in the final against Sweden was the icing on the cake for the women’s team after a highly successful tournament. At the same time manager Silvia Neid’s illustrious career as national team manager came to an end. The German women were only defeated once in the competition in a 2-1 group stage loss to Canada. However when the team faced the Canadians once again in the semi-finals of the competition, a united team performance sent them on their way to a 2-0 victory- the perfect way to reach the final.
