Schweinsteiger has a new manager

José Mourinho is Manchester United’s new manager, meaning he will be in charge of FIFA World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger. The Portuguese has been appointed following Monday’s sacking of Louis van Gaal. The 53-year-old put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal on Friday.

“To become Manchester United manager is a special honour in the game. It is a club known and admired throughout the world. There is a mystique and a romance about it which no other club can match,” explained Mourinho, who added that “I have always enjoyed a rapport with the United fans. I’m looking forward to being their manager and enjoying their magnificent support in the coming years.”

The Red Devils finished the 2015/16 season in fifth place, 15 points behind champions Leicester City. They won the FA Cup on Saturday but that success wasn’t enough to save van Gaal’s job.
