Schürrle rescues a point for BVB

Thanks to a goal from World Champion André Schürrle in the dying moments of the match, Borussia Dortmund shared the spoils with Toni Kroos’ Real Madrid on the second matchday of the Champions League. BVB wrested a point from the reigning champions with a 2-2 draw, to build on their 6-0 triumph over Legia Warsaw on the first matchday.

Los merengues opened the scoring in the 17th minute with Cristiano Ronaldo, but the second placed Bundesliga team got back on level terms when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang striked just before half time (43’). After the break, the Spaniards re-took the lead through Raphael Varane (68’). However, Schürrle, who came on for Mario Götze, saved a point for BVB with a fine goal just three minutes from time.

Leverkusen miss out on win in last moments

Bayer Leverkusen had to settle for a draw in their Tuesday night Champions League clash with AS Monaco. The sides drew 1-1 thanks to an equaliser from Monaco centre-back Kamil Glik in the fourth minute of stoppage time. Striker Chicharito Hernandez had put Leverkusen in the lead in the 73rd minute, before the late Monaco equaliser.

With the draw, Leverkusen missed the chance to go top of Group E after also drawing with CSKA Moscow on the first matchday (2-2). Roger Schmidt’s side will face English outfit Tottenham Hotspur on the next matchday (18th October).

Khedira’s four star Juve

Another World Champion was also in action in Tuesday night’s Champions League fixtures, as Sami Khedira’s Juventus won convincingly away to Dinamo Zagreb. The Germany international has been in fine goal-scoring form for his club this season, with two goals in five league games. However, he didn’t get him name on the scoresheet tonight, instead, his team’s goals came from Pjanic (24’), Higuain (31’), Dybala (57’) and an own goal five minutes from time by Semper.

This victory sees Juventus move joint top of Group H with Sevilla on four points.
