Özil visits Jordanian refugee camp

World Champion Mesut Özil played football with some young Syrian refugees and local girls during a recent visit to Jordan. The Arsenal star was at the Saatari refugee camp 80 kilometres north east of the capital Amman on Wednesday, home to tens of thousands of refugees. “It was a very emotional moment,” said the 27-year-old.

Özil visited the football stadium in Amman and joined in with the Jordan U17 women’s training session. He gave away some of the Germany national team’s kits and also some from his club Arsenal. He was welcomed by Prince Ali, president of the Jordanian Football Association, who said Özil was a source of inspiration: “He has now seen with his own eyes how much positive energy football can provide these young refugees with.”
