Meinert: "Stand up to the Swiss"

In their second group game of the U19 EUROs in Slovakia, Germany Women will be looking to make another step towards the semi-finals. Maren Meinert’s side will face Switzerland today (18:00 CEST) in Senica.

The stats are in favour of Germany: From seven previous meetings with Switzerland, the Germans have won four, however, the last encounter between these sides was actually five years ago. But Maren Meinert is confident: “Switzerland are a side we can measure ourselves against and stand up to.”

Specht: "Give everything to win"

Coached by Nora Häuptle, Switzerland raced to the top of Group B with a 4-0 win over Austria in their first match of the EUROs. Germany are in third following their defeat to Spain, so their survival in the tournament depends on the result tonight. The desire to win is great in the Germany squad: “We will give everything to win this match and show what we are capable of,” said captain Michaela Specht. “We have good players in attack and can remain very compact in defence.”

Germany face Austria in their final group game on Monday (25th July, 18:00 CEST). The top two sides from each group progress to the semi-finals on 28th July and the final will be played on 31st July in Senec.
