Lewandowski scores hat-trick in 6-0 Bayern win

Double winners FC Bayern München sent out a strong message to their competitors as they kicked off the 54th Bundesliga season with a thumping 6-0 victory against Werder Bremen.

The demolition began in the 9th minute, as Xabi Alonso volley home a stunning effort from 25 yards. Last season’s top scorer Robert Lewandowski followed up with Bayern’s second just minutes later. Werder steadied themselves and managed to keep the score at 2-0 going into the break, but any half-time team talk went out the window when Lewandowski made it three 46 seconds after the restart. World Cup winner Philipp Lahm made it 4-0 in the 66th minute, before Franck Ribéry and a Lewandowski hat-trick rounded off the win. The defeat continues a terrible run for the Bremen side of 14 competitive defeats against the record champions.
