Jones inducted into Hall of Freedom on Sunday

As Steffi Jones begins her four-day trip to America on Thursday, her induction into the Hall of Fame of her former club Washington Freedom on Sunday is sure to be a proud moment. The President of the Organising Committee of the FIFA Women's World Cup 2011 is set to be officially introduced into the Hall of Fame at the Maryland SoccerPlex stadium during Freedom's home game against league leaders Los Angeles Sol.

"It's a great honour for me both personally and as an athlete. I had a great time with the Washington Freedom, but I never imagined I would receive an award like this," said the OC President. Indeed, a Hall of Fame induction is the most prestigious accolade that can be awarded to an athlete in the USA.

Steffi Jones played for Washington Freedom in 2002 and 2003 in the former Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) and enjoyed her finest hour in 2003 as the club were crowned champions. She will now follow in the footsteps of goalkeeper Siri Mullinix and two-time FIFA World Player of the Year Mia Hamm and become the third former Freedom player to be honoured with a place in the Hall of Freedom.

During the course of her stay in the United States, Jones will also be visiting the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles, host stadium of the FIFA Women's World Cup 2003 final, meeting with German ambassador Dr Klaus Scharioth in Washington and taking part in several interviews with the local media.
