Hahn: "I’d gladly welcome Bayern"

André Hahn was a little embarrassed to squander a big chance on Tuesday night. “I’d normally bury it with my eyes closed,” explained the Borussia Mönchengladbach forward. However, the miss didn’t prove costly as his side beat VfB Stuttgart 2-0 at home to climb into the third round of the DFB Cup. After the match the 26-year-old spoke to DFB.de about the competition and who he’d like to face in the next round.

Question: How tough was the game against Stuttgart, André Hahn?

André Hahn: It wasn’t easy because we’ve had a lot of games and travel recently. Despite this we were strong mentally and played well. We grew into the game. Things became easier for us after the opener. We were dominant and didn’t give much away. We should have wrapped the game up earlier, but we’re in the next round and that’s all that matters.

Question: You had some good opportunities...

Hahn: That’s true. I should have buried the big opportunity, but thankfully we weren’t left to rue that missed chance. I’d normally bury things like that with my eyes closed.

Question: Your classy flick helped created Fabian Johnson’s opener. Did you know that he was behind you?

Hahn: I’ve read in the papers that I’m not a technical player, so hopefully they saw that move (laughs). I knew that he was there and thankfully he received the ball and made the most of it.

Question: As a professional, do you want to be involved all the time, despite the perceived burden this brings?

Hahn: Of course. I want to play in every single match. We train hard in order to make an impression and once you’re there it’s important to give it your all. I think we all did that against Stuttgart.

Question: This weekend you face Eintracht Frankfurt. Their tie against Ingolstadt went to penalties, which must be beneficial for you, as they’re likely to be tired…

Hahn: It’s certainly a positive. It’s a also a home match and we’re particularly strong in front of our own fans.

Question: Who do you want to face in the next round of the Cup? Or is avoiding Bayern the priority?

Hahn: I’d prefer a home game. As I said before, we’re strong at home, so I’d welcome Bayern! We have no influence on the draw though – you can only beat what’s put in front of you. We’re glad to be in the next round and will regenerate today and then watch the draw.
