Germany thrash Ghana in Paderborn

The DFB-Team enjoyed a successful pre-Olympics dress rehearsal on Frida night. Silvia Neid’s squad inflicted a comprehensive 11-0 defeat on Ghana in Paderborn. Forward Anja Mittag bagged four goals. The game saw Neid take charge of the team in her homeland for the final time, whilst Nadine Keßler received an official send-off ahead of the fixture.

The opener came after just 45 seconds when Mittag fired home after Melanie Behringer’s effort had been pushed into her path by Ghana keeper Patricia Mantey. Dzsenifer Marozsan doubled the lead six minutes later. The visitors had a chance to grab one back soon after but Princelle Adobea fired over the bar when well placed.

Three goals in three minutes

Alexandra Popp netted Germany’s third in the 13th minute, following clever interplay between Behringer and Laudehr. The goals started to come thick and fast as the half progressed. Following Cynthia Adobea’s own goal (26’) ,Saskia Bartusiak (29’), Sara Däbritz (30’) and Mittag (31’) all converted successfully. Mittag added further strikes in the 39th and 42nd minutes to round-off a hugely impressive four-goal haul.

Neid made four changes at the break, a move which appeared to hamper momentum somewhat. Despite this, her side remained in control throughout. Substitute Mandy Islacker made it 10-0 after 66 minutes, with Marozsan completing the scoring in injury time.
