Five-star Podolski in the Turkish cup

For the first time in his professional career, World Champion Lukas Podolski scored five goals in a single game. With these goals, the 31 year old fired his side Galatasary to a 6-2 win in the Turkish cup against fourth-division outfit Erzincanspor. Striking at the start of the game in the fourth and tenth minute respectively, the former DFB Team player put his side into a commanding position. After the break, he added three more goals to his tally, scoring three in 14 minutes (50’, 55’, 64’).

With the win, defending champions Galatasary secured second place in their group and have advanced to the round of 16. Previously, Podolski had netted four goals in a single game three times in his career - twice for 1. FC Köln (in 2004 against 1. FC Saarbrücken and in 2005 against Energie Cottbus) and once for the Germany national team (in 2006 against San Marino).
