Dortmund top Champions League group

Borussia Dortmund finish top of the group and qualify for the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League after drawing 2-2 with Real Madrid. Karim Benzema (16’,53’) scored twice to put Real Madrid ahead, before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (61’) and Marco Reus (81’) both scored in the second half to bring the two sides level. Dortmund will face one of the seven teams who came in second place in their group. The draw will take place on Monday at 12:00.

World cup winners André Schürrle and Julian Weigl started for Dortmund in Madrid. Reus came on as a substitute in the second half, whilst Toni Kroos started for Real Madrid.

Brandt scores for Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen won their last Champions League group game 3-0 against AS Monaco, setting a new club record of eight games unbeaten in the competition. Vladlen Yurchenko (30’) and Julian Brandt (48”) scored for Leverkusen. Wendell hit the crossbar from the penalty spot and AS Monaco keeper Morgan de Sanctis was unlucky to parry the ball into his own net. Leverkusen finished second in their group and will face one of the seven group winners in the last 16.

Bayer Leverkusen were set to finish in second place in the group before kick-off. Both teams made changes to their starting elevens. Leverkusen had to do without the injured Kevin Volland, Karim Bellarabi and Lars Bender, whilst Bernd Leno, Jonathan Tah and Benjamin Henrichs were all on the bench.
