Dortmund sign World Champion Schürrle

Borussia Dortmund have announced the signing of World Champion André Schürrle from Wolfsburg. The 25-year-old has put pen to paper on a contract until 2021. “Borussia Dortmund are one of the best teams in Europe with a strong and extremely exciting squad. I know from experience how strong the club’s relationship is with the fans and I am looking forward to experiencing that as one of their own and not as a marvelling opponent,” said Schürrle.

Schürrle is Dortmund’s eighth signing of the summer after Mario Götze (Bayern München), Marc Bartra (FC Barcelona), Sebastian Rode (Bayern München), Emre Mor (FC Nordsjaelland), Ousmane Dembélé (Stade Rennes), Mikel Merino (CA Osasuna) and Raphaël Guerreiro (FC Lorient). BVB have also lost three key players in the form of Mats Hummels (Bayern München), Ilkay Gündogan (Manchester City) and Henrikh Mkhitaryan (Manchester United).

“André Schürrle is a Germany international with outstanding attacking potential who is also very assured when passing and always willing to help out the team in defence. Despite being just 25, he possesses vast amounts of international experience. His qualities will be of great use to our team. This transfer completes our attack for the 2016/17 season,” said Borussia’s sporting director Michael Zorc.
