Dear Football Fans,

The memories from this great summer are still very much on my mind. The 2006 FIFA World Cup truly was a summernight’s dream. What a great time to make friends, who had travelled to Germany from all around the world. The people on the FIFA Fan Fest at the Brandenburg Gate, when our team said “Thank You” and “Farewell”, were just amazing. The organisers later informed me, that more than a million fans had showed up. No less impressive was the reception in Stuttgart, before the game against Portugal. 20000 fans stood and waited for hours in front of our hotel. The enthusiasm of the amazing crowds in Dortmund really pushed us to our limits. The fans helped us beat Poland and move on to the next stage.

Another day, another great experience: For a mere practice session at the Arena Duesseldorf, we had more than 42000 fans come out. This spirit, this joy and enthusiasm, infected our team and enabled us to play a very successful 2006 FIFA World Cup.

With an average attendance of 57396 fans for the 13 games, we set a new record. At the same time, German television achieved record ratings. For some games, the broadcast almost reached a 90 percent market share. An audience of up to 32 million people watched the World Cup games in Germany alone – and that is not counting the millions, who followed the action via a giant screen on the Fan Fest.

In 2007, our team faces a new challenge, the remaining qualification games for the EURO 2008. So far, we have played some good games, which allowed us to spend the winter in first place. The qualification is within our reach. With a little help from our fans, we can get it done.

Greetings
