Robin Dutt: "Exciting challenge"

Starting August 1, 2012, Robin Dutt joins the German Football Association (DFB) as their newly appointed sporting director. The DFB agreed with the 47-year old Dutt on a four-year contract. The former coach of Bundesliga clubs Bayer Leverkusen and SC Freiburg succeeds Matthias Sammer, who had left the DFB in early July as the new football director of FC Bayern Munich. In his new job, Dutt is in charge of the entire talent development of the DFB as well as the continued development of the DFB coaching courses.

Robin Dutt says: “To take on this exciting challenge here with the DFB carries a very special significance, it feels great to be responsible in this function. I look forward to working together with Joachim Löw as well as the other DFB coaches. Working together with the best and brightest talents, we will push German football to yet another level.”

DFB President Wolfgang Niersbach says: “I feel quite satisfied that we were able to sign a proven winner and well-established Bundesliga coach for this important task. With his skills, Robin Dutt will build on the success of Matthias Sammer, and because of this experience, he will give us new insights and impulses.”

DFB General Secretary Helmut Sandrock added: “Robin Dutt’s vita is a perfect fit for our needs. He knows what it’s like to coach at the top-level as well as developing talent at the talent bases of the Bundesliga clubs.”

Joachim Löw, coach of the German national team, says: “The DFB acted swiftly and found a highly competent solution. That was handled perfectly, now I’m looking forward to our future cooperation.”

In 2005, Dutt made his coaching license at the Hennes-Weisweiler Academy in Cologne, finishing ahead of the class. Following the 2007/2008 season, Dutt transferred from Stuttgarter Kickers to SC Freiburg, which he then coached into the Bundesliga. He was highly involved in the talent development in Freiburg. He then moved on to coach Bayer Leverkusen until April 2011.
