Arne Friedrich: quickness and caring conscience
It was obvious that the meanwhile 28-year-old Friedrich, who first played striker and then midfielder in his youth, would develop to an outstanding player in the DFB-team. The Westphalian by birth played consistently on very high standard as centre back- as well as right back. Another advantage of the present Hertha-skipper is his quickness.
Wearing the jersey of SC Verl, he attracted attention of several professional clubs like, for example, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Arminia Bielefeld. Arne Friedrich decided for Arminia also because then he was able to further stay at home and to develop perfectly under coach Hermann Gerland. In 2002, he moved to Berlin where he quickly became a starter and is wearing the captain’s armband since 2004. He is one of the leadership players who gives clear comments even if he is quite silent in public.
