"We're past the warm-up stage, we're ready"

OLIVER BIERHOFF ON...

... the training camp in Ascona: I would like to say thank you for the fantastic time here. The weather over the past few days couldn’t dampen our mood. We were warmly welcomed. Training was completely calm and fully focused.

... the squad: There’s a good feeling which you notice when you see how the team have grown and developed together. After the final squad was announced, you can sense the relief amongst some of the players. We have a good mix and the experienced players are taking care of the youngsters. That fills us with hope.

... the EURO 2016 base in Evian: It is located quite high up. We have lots of light and plenty of space. It is important to have a small oasis, where you can relax and feel comfortable. We have the hotel to ourselves and can move around freely. The training ground is also not too far away. We are going to be able to be concentrated and fully focused on our task. The safety precautions will obviously be increased.

Arrivederci Ascona! After one and a half weeks at the training camp ahead of EURO 2016 in France, it’s time for Germany to leave. General manager Oliver Bierhoff and assistant manager Thomas Schneider faced the press to talk about preparations in Switzerland, the friendly against Hungary on Saturday (18:00 CEST) and the upcoming European Championship.

THOMAS SCHNEIDER ON...

... the team’s fitness: We have successfully managed to bring the different groups together. Almost everyone was involved in the whole team training - except Mats Hummels. I have a good feeling about the European Championship, we’re definitely ready. I’m excited to now see how the team performs against Hungary.

... Bastian Schweinsteiger possibly playing against Hungary: Basti is clearly enjoying his football. You can see that he’s having fun being back involved. He is certainly ready to play 20 or 30 minutes but we are going to speak to the medical team. Then Jogi will decide whether or for how long Schweinsteiger plays.

... the starting XI against Hungary: You can assume that players like Özil, Kroos, Neuer or Müller, who have not played in the last week, will start. I can’t reveal anything else.

... Mats Hummels’ return: It would be premature to make a prognosis. Mats completed a running session today. We must look at the situation day by day. We have enough players, who could fill his position.

... the significance of the Hungary game: We want to put in a positive performance in front of the fans in Germany. Then it’ll just be about fine tuning.

... defending set pieces: We obviously weren’t pleased with how we went about this recently. We have worked hard on this in the last weeks and will continue to do so in the next week.
