U20s to play Zambia in World Cup last 16

The Germany U20s have reached the last 16 of the U20 World Cup in South Korea and will play Zambia on Wednesday at 13:00 CEST in Jeju. Germany finished third in group B with four points. They recorded their first win of the tournament last Friday when they beat Vanuatu 3-2.

“After a patchy group stage, we’re pleased to have made it through to the last 16,” said trainer Guido Streichsbier. “Both the players and the coaches haven’t been happy with the performances so far. We’re aware that we now need to improve.”

Argentina and Honduras had worse records than Germany in the group stage so Streichsbier’s team made it through as one of the four best third placed sides in the group stage. These four sides join the six group winners and six runners up to make up the last 16.
