U20 striker Selke to join RB Leipzig in the summer

Germany’s U20s striker Davie Selke will move from Bundesliga side Werder Bremen to ambitious 2. Bundesliga side RB Leipzig at the end of the season. The 20-year old signed a five year contract until 30th June 2020. Both clubs have confirmed the news.

“We’ve been in discussion since the beginning of the year and we’ve made progress after the past few days”, said Bremen’s sporting director Thomas Eichin, who only extended Selke’s contract until 2018 in September. Selke has played 26 games in the Bundesliga so far, scoring six goals. According to Eichin, the club have always emphasised that such negotiations would always take place if both sides would profit from it. “That’s the case here. Davie has chosen to go there for sporting reasons that will lead to him, either in the short or long term, to returning to the Bundesliga, and for us the financial implications are very attractive.”, explained Eichin.

Selke himself is also looking forward positively. “This new chapter for me starts in the summer”, said the talented striker. The U19 European Champion thanks Bremen for giving him the opportunity to develop at the Green-Whites.

For the Bulls the deal has generated excitement for the start of next season. “We’ve been working on the Selke deal since Christmas and were able to seal the deal after intensive discussions with Tomas Eichin, the player and his advisors”, said sporting director Ralf Rangnick. “Davie Selke is one of the few classic centre forwards remaining – big, quick, dynamic and deadly in front of goal”, praised Rangnick.
