Draxler fires PSG into French cup final

World Cup winner Julian Draxler and Paris St. Gerimain booked their spot in the Coupe de France final, keeping their hopes of a third consecutive double alive. PSG beat Champions League semi-finalists AS Monaco 5-0 without goalkeeper Kevin Trapp between the sticks. Draxler opened the scoring midway through the first half, before Edinson Cavani, Safwan MBae (own goal) and Marquinhos completed the rout.

PSG will face SCO Angers in the final at the Stade de France on 27th May. Angers beat Guingamp 2-0 on Tuesday to secure their place in the final for the first time since 1957.

Huth own goal gifts Arsenal win

Mesut Özil’s Arsenal scraped a 1-0 win against holder Leicester City thanks to a late own goal by German defender Robert Huth. The win keeps Arsenal’s top four hopes alive, three days after they secured their place in the FA Cup final next month.

With six matches left to play, Arsenal currently lie sixth with 60 points. Leroy Sané’s Manchester City currently occupy fourth spot (64 points), while record champions Manchester United lie fifth with three points more than the Gunners.

Real and Barca neck-and-neck in Spain

FC Barcelona and Real Madrid continued their battle for top spot in LaLiga on Wednesday evening. Just three days after a dramatic 3-2 win the El Classico against arch-rivals Real Madrid, the reigning holders smashed Osasuna 7-1, with Marc-André ter Stegen having little to do in net. In the later kick-off, Real followed up with a 6-2 win against Deportivo La Coruña.

Record champions Real, who were without Toni Kroos, thrashed Deportivo thanks to goals from Álvaro Morata, James Rodríguez (brace), Lucas and Isco. Los Blancos still have a game in hand to play against Celta Vigo.

Even without superstar forward Neymer, who is serving a three-match suspension, Barcelona made easy work of the bottom-placed side. Lionel Messi opened the scoring with his 501st goal for Barca, before Andre Gomes added a second before the break. Roberto Torres pulled one back for the visitors early in the second half, but a second for Gomes set Enrique’s side on the road to a resounding victory. Messi completed his brace, before Paco Alcacer, Javi Mascherano and a second for Paco completed the win.
