Tah drops out of U21 squad, Anton called up in place

There was bad news for the Germany U21 team shortly before their meeting up again in Frankfurt for the trip to Poland on Wednesday, as Jonathan Tah was forced to withdraw from the squad due to injury. The Bayer Leverkusen central suffered an adductor problem, making it impossible for him to appear at the tournament.

The 21-year old is one of the leading players in the U21 setup, and has featured three times for the senior national team. Head coach Stefan Kuntz has replaced the injured Tah with 20 year old Hannover 96 defender Waldermar Anton, who was in the initial provisional squad but like Timo Baumgartl, was cut. Anton now has the chance to profit from Tah’s injury thanks to UEFA’s rules, which allow a chance change at this point in time in the event of an injury.
