Schalke's Leroy Sane extends his contract until 2019

"Leroy is an extremely talented football player, who already proved last season how versatile he is in attack," explained manager Horst Heldt.

The attacking midfielder made 14 Bundesliga appearances and bagged three goals. He also found the back of the net on his Champions League debut at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu in Schalke's 4-3 victory over Real Madrid. "Based on his development and enormous potential we are very happy about the fact that Leroy wants to build his future here," continued Heldt.

Leroy Sané, son of former Bundesliga professional Souleyman Sané, joined Schalke in 2011 from Bayer 04 Leverkusen after having already spent a three year spell with Royal Blues between 2005 and 2008. His first football club was SG Wattenscheid 09, in a neighbouring city to Gelsenkirchen, where he played between 2001 and 2005. Last season Sanè won the German Championship with S04's U19 side.
