Sasic wins UEFA Best Women's Player in Europe

Célia Šašić announced after the World Cup in Canada that she would be retiring form football, but the former Germany international has been voted UEFA best women's player in Europe. The 27-year-old won the award ahead of Germany teammate Dzsenifer Marozsan of FSV Frankfurt and French international Amandine Henry of Lyon.

Šašić featured in the Champions League for Frankurt last season along with Marozsan, and at the end of July she was voted Germany’s best player.

The striker began her international career in 2005. On the 28th January, Šašić celebrated her international debut with a victory against Australia. In total, Šašić played 111 games for the national side and scored 63 goals.

She made six appearances at the last World Cup and won the Golden Boot. Along with the European Championship trophies in 2009 and 2013, Šašić won and Olympic Bronze medal in 2008 in Peking.
