Sammer hails Boateng as the "best central defender in the world"

According to Bayern München’s board member Matthias Sammer, Jerome Boateng is "one of the best central defenders in the world. If you look at his development in recent years, it’s been simply breathtaking."

World champion Boateng, who has been called 'the king' by Thomas Müller, has reached a level whereby "people will compare future players to him and say: 'Oh, he plays like Jerome Boateng used to'. It would be the greatest compliment one could receive."

Boateng has been one of the leaders at both Bayern and Germany for a while now. "It would be a dream to be captain for both sides! I am not trying to work towards that goal above all else, but it would be a huge honour for me," said the Germany international.

He believes, that he "is of the right age, and has gathered enough experience to take on the responsibility. I simply enjoy having responsibility. Even with the pressure at a club like FC Bayern or in the national side, after our World Cup victory. I don’t think that the captain’s armband would be a burden for me."
