Reus on the hunt for his first derby goal

Marco Reus' contract extension at Borussia Dortmund until 2019 gave the club a significant boost. The Germany international aims to become an all-time great at BVB and the shortest way to achieving that is by scoring goals against Schalke. Saturday sees the 146th Ruhr derby between Borussia Dortmund and FC Schalke 04 take place (15:30 CET), giving Reus a chance to score his first goal in Yellow & Black against the Royal Blues.

When a young Marco Reus was still playing for Borussia Mönchengladbach, Schalke were actually one of his favourite teams to play against – he bagged five goals against S04 in seven games against the Foals. Since his move to Dortmund in the summer of 2012, however, he has failed to get his name on the scoresheet in four meetings with Schalke. He is aiming to end that drought on Saturday.

"Run and fight until you drop – losing is forbidden"

"Coming from Dortmund, I practically inherited all the knowledge and importance of this derby when I was born," Marco Reus told football magazine kicker this week. "The motto against the Royal Blues is always the same: Run and fight until you drop – losing is forbidden," added the Germany international.

The attacking midfielder has been in great form of late, increasing his chances to end his goal drought against S04. Reus has scored a goal in each of BVB's last three Bundesliga games and each match has ended in victory. His away goal in the first leg of the Champions League last-16 tie against Juventus (2-1 defeat) could prove vital for Borussia too. He certainly isn't short of confidence at the moment.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Reus' current partner in crime, is also enjoying a good run of form, something which could provide an issue for Schalke's young goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther and his defence, which featured World Cup winner Benedikt Höwedes. Aubameyang, skipper of Gabon's national team, has bagged four goals in his past three games and has also supplied two assists. Overall this season, the duo have had a hand in more than 60% (17 of 28) of Dortmund's Bundesliga goals.

Aubameyang on Reus: "We are like brothers"

"We get along great," said Reus about his teammate from Gabon, and added: "Auba is a great guy and a kind person. He’s often perceived differently from how he truly is because of his fast cars and at times extravagant clothes. Playing football with him is great fun." Aubameyang feels the same: "If you get along well off the pitch, then it also has an impact on it. Playing together with Marco is great for me. We are like brothers."

Dortmund fans will be happy so long as either of the two decides the 146th Ruhr derby in BVB’s favour on Saturday, making February 28th 2015 an unforgettable day.
