Real Madrid win features two World Champions

Despite an early scare only 38 seconds into the game and missing the suspended World Player Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid have celebrated an impressive victory. Toni Kroos was part of the starting XI that beat Real Sociedad San Sebastian with 4-1. Nine minutes before the final whistle, Kroos made place for Sami Khedira.

Barcelona are now four points behind the Spanish table-toppers but they can close the gap if they win their home fixture against Villareal on Sunday. However, Barcelona have already played one match more than Madrid.

The Basques went ahead early under the guidance of former Manchester United manager David Moyes. Their joy was short-lived though; it took James Rodriguez only two minutes to equalise. Sergio Ramos doubled the lead eight minutes before the break and Karim Benzema netted twice second-half goals to give Madrid a comfortable 4-1 lead.

Wins for Can and Wollscheid

Premier League runners-up Liverpool won their matchday 23 fixture against West Ham United. Two second-half goals by Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge secured three points. Under-21 international Emre Can was part of the starting XI.

Germany international Philipp Wollscheid and Stoke City beat Queens Park 3-1 at home thanks to a Jonathan Walters hat-trick. Niko Kranjcar got the consolation goal for the visitors.
