UEFA president Michel Platini has today confirmed his intention to run for the FIFA presidency at the extraordinary FIFA Congress on 26th February 2016.
In a letter to the presidents and general secretaries of the 209 FIFA members, the 60-year-old declared: “This was a very personal and well thought out decision where I have weighted up the future of football alongside my own future. I was convinced by the appreciation, support and the encouragement that has been shown to me by many of you.” He says that he wants to work tirelessly in the interest of football.

20th July 2015: Beginning of term and the announcement of the election
14th-17th September 2015: UEFA general assembly in Malta
26th October 2015: Deadline for candidates to register for FIFA presidency through FIFA members
26th January 2016: Deadline for the announcement of the names of the proposed and approved candidates to FIFA members
26th February 2016: Extraordinary FIFA Congress for the election of the FIFA president – end of the term.
