Neuer: "We didn't lose faith"

They gave their all and left the pitch with their heads held high. Shortly after their Champions League final dream was quashed, despite the 3-2 win in the semifinal second leg against FC Barcelona, Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer gave his thoughts to the press.

Question: Mr Neuer, how would you sum up the 3-2 home win against FC Barcelona?

Manuel Neuer: Nobody can complain at us anymore. Perhaps we should be annoyed about the goals we conceded, as we let in five across the two games. The last quarter of an hour in Barcelona was the crucial point in the tie. That’s why we didn’t manage to reach the final.

Question: What are your thoughts on the goals you conceded?

Neuer: First and foremost you have to remember that they are excellent players who can beat a couple of men on their way to goal. That’s always tricky to defend, especially on days when they are in good form. Big players make the difference.

Question: Considering the number of chances you had last night, is the 3-0 first leg defeat now more frustrating?

Neuer: Of course it’s disappointing when you consider what happened in Munich. We didn’t lose faith after the first leg – we put in an improved performance last night and beat Barcelona at home.

Question: What are your thoughts on the season?

Neuer: I think we’ve had a good season and reacted well after a busy summer. Finishing top of the table with such a big advantage despite a number of setbacks shows that we’ve been performing well.
