Neuer and ter Stegen nominated for "Save of the Season 2014/15"

Germany is a bit of a gold mine when it comes to goalkeepers. World champion Manuel Neuer is the best keeper in the world, and Germany U21 international Marc-André ter Stegen lines up in goal for Champions League winners FC Barcelona. No surprise that both are held in high regard by UEFA – or that both have been nominated for "Save of the Season 2014/15", a vote that will run on UEFA.com until 27th August.

The ten most spectacular saves made in all of the UEFA nations have been chosen as the final shortlist for the award. Manuel Neuer was shortlisted for his athletic double save against AS Roma at the Allianz Arena – first he got down low to stop a close-range drive for Gervinho, before following it up with a stunning save from Radja Nainggolan’s rebound effort, which looked destined for the top corner.

Marc-André ter Stegen also showed his class in the Champions League semi-final against Bayern. The Germany U21 international made an incredible reflex save to deny Robert Lewandowski, before dashing back to scoop the ball off his line to deny what looked a certain goal for the Polish striker.

Alongside both German goalkeepers, the other nominees were: Kasper Schmeichel (Denmark), Sergio Rico (FC Sevilla), Oleh Kudryk (FC Shakhtar Donetsk), Joe Hart (Manchester City), Denys Boyko (FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk), Jakob Busk (Denmark), Thibaut Courtois (Chelsea FC) und Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus).
