Matchday 10: Can Dortmund turn their season around against FC Bayern?

Matchday 10 of the Bundesliga is almost upon us. The action gets underway tonight (31st October, 20:30 CEST), as Roberto Di Matteo’s Schalke 04 will be looking to get back to winning ways when FC Augsburg visit the VELTINS-Arena. But arguably the biggest game of the weekend will be at the Allianz Arena in Munich on Saturday evening (18:30 CEST), as Borussia Dortmund will be looking to try and turn their season around at the home of the German record holders.

With just seven points to their name so far this season, Borussia Dortmund have had their worst start to a Bundesliga season in 29 years. Jürgen Klopp’s side have lost their last four matches in a row in the league, but will be hoping to take some of their Champions League form into Saturday’s game against FC Bayern, after registering three wins from three so far in this year’s group stage. But they know that it won’t be an easy task on Saturday evening, especially seeing as FC Bayern are currently unbeaten in their last 13 Bundesliga games, with 10 wins and 3 draws. But there is some hope for Dortmund, as Bayern’s last defeat came on matchday 30 of last season against Klopp’s men.

Elsewhere on Saturday (15:30 CEST), Hakan Calhanoglu returns to the Imtech Arena, as Bayer Leverkusen take on Hamburger SV, who will be looking to improve on their equal worst start to a Bundesliga campaign and register their first win at home since they beat this weekend’s opponents, Leverkusen, back in April. 1. FSV Mainz 05 will be hoping that they can secure a home win against bottom side Werder Bremen, who will be looking to build on their win in the DFB cup in midweek under new manager Viktor Skrypnyk. Hannover 96 will welcome Eintracht Frankfurt to the HDI Arena, whilst two in form teams meet in Stuttgart, as VfB Stuttgart, who secured a 3-3 draw with Leverkusen on matchday 8 and beat Eintracht Frankfurt 5-4 last weekend, face VfL Wolfsburg, who are the only side in the league to have won their last 4 Bundesliga games in a row.

On Sunday (2nd November, 15:30 CEST), it’ll be a battle of the unbeaten sides, as Borussia Mönchengladbach host TSG Hoffenheim, with both sides being the only two unbeaten Bundesliga teams in competitive games so far this season. Both sides also qualified for the last 16 of the DFB cup on Wednesday night, and will be hoping to take this form into the game at BORUSSIA-PARK. The final games of matchday 10 will be both be played at 17:30 CEST on Sunday and will feature both newly-promoted sides. 1. FC Köln will be hoping to build on their good start to their return to the Bundesliga against second bottom SC Freiburg, whilst SC Paderborn, who currently sit in eighth in their first ever Bundesliga season, will welcome the club from the capital, Hertha BSC, to the Benteler Arena.
