Mario Götze: "Two finals in Berlin in 2015 is an option"

Bayern München won their last home game of 2014 as they beat SC Freiburg 2-0. World Champion Mario Götze summed up the almost perfect first half of the season in the Bundesliga and looked ahead to next year. DFB.de was there to get the answers.

Question: Mr Götze, you won again, you’re still unbeaten and you’ve only conceded three goals- can you keep that up until the end of the season?

Mario Götze: If that’s how you sum up the first half of the season, then I believe that you can be relatively happy. We’ll try to do it as that is what we are aiming for. We still have an important game left (on Friday against FSV Mainz 05.) We definitely want to pick up all three points going into the winter break. And then we’ll go again.

Question: Are you happy that 2014 will shortly be over?

Götze: It was a long year in every respect. A short break will definitely be good.

Question: Is remaining unbeaten in the Bundesliga a, sort of, last motivation due to your dominance?

Götze: We concentrate on every game. Obviously it would be nice if that were to happen come the end of the season. But I believe that that’s a very, very long way off. We’ve only played 16 games so far and therefore there’s still a lot of football to be played.

Question: What would you do against FC Bayern and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer?

Question: What would you do against FC Bayern and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer?

Götze: (he laughs) I believe that you saw it in the first half: Freiburg had one or two chances. We are very, very happy that Manu (Manuel Neuer) is there, that we play very, very well as a team and we always try to be the best in attack and defence. Therefore, we have picked up a lot of points. Up until the first goal, it’s always difficult as there’s not a lot of space. Even at 2-0, the gaps aren’t always there…

Question: Do you eventually get annoyed when the opposition don’t sit back?

Götze: Obviously it’s hard. When you’re 2-0 up, you might expect them to do so in order to counter. But I think that depends on the team, the manager and the philosophy. We can’t influence that.

Question: What is your personal aim for 2015?

Götze: First of all, I want to review 2014. It was a good year and we are looking forward to next year. Personally, I would like to remain healthy, fit and play.

Question:And to go to Berlin twice for the Champions League and the DFB Cup finals- is that an aim?

Götze: (he laughs) Yes, it would be an option.
