On Monday afternoon, the World Champions were awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf by Germany Federal President Joachim Gauck. In return, World Cup winning captain, Philipp Lahm, handed over a picture book, entitled “One Night in Rio,” to the Federal President as a thank you for the invitation to Bellevue Palace.
“For many of us, this isn’t our first time here. Nevertheless, this time is quite special because we brought the trophy with us,” said Lahm in Berlin. “We would like to thank both the Federal President and the Federal Chancellor for all your support. It was a pleasure and an honour for us to welcome you into the dressing room at the games.”
The picture book, “One Night in Rio”, recalls the day of the final at the Maracanã stadium, as well as the celebrations of the DFB-Team in Rio de Janeiro in a unique way. Photographer Paul Ripke was close to all the action and that’s how he managed to take the sensational pictures.
