Junglas after the win over Bremen: "We want to enjoy another great cup night"

A 3-1 win over Werder Bremen- Arminia Bielefeld caused an upset in the last 16 of the DFB Cup on Wednesday evening. The third division side now join seven Bundesliga sides in the draw for the quarter-finals, which will take place on Sunday. Manuel Junglas ensured their qualification to the next round with two goals. The 26-year-old spoke to DFB.de about the win, last night, the dream of Berlin and their top of the table clash against Borussia Dortmund II in the 3. Liga on Saturday (14:00 CET).

DFB.de: Mr Junglas, how was last night? Could you sleep?

Manuel Junglas: Badly. I was very restless. I woke up a few times because I had the events from the evening fixed in my mind. It was unbelievable. For most of us, that was the high point in our careers. We’re proud, happy and jubilant.

DFB.de: Have you come to terms with the 3-1 win against Werder Bremen?

Junglas: Not yet. We can’t really believe it. We have to let things calm down and let it sink in. But we don’t have much time to do that as we have to go again on Saturday against Borussia Dortmund II. That’s the next tough test and we can’t let up.

DFB.de: You scored two of the team’s three goals. You’re biggest day to date?

Junglas: Obviously. You dream about things like that. The atmosphere was incredible. It was an amazing experience that I’ll never forget.

DFB.de: When did it become clear that an upset was possible?

Junglas: Obviously. You dream about things like that. The atmosphere was incredible. It was an amazing experience that I’ll never forget.

DFB.de: When did it become clear that an upset was possible?

Junglas: I felt like we could after we went 2-0 up but there was still half an hour to play. However, I had the impression that Bremen didn’t know how to deal with the situation. They weren’t able to build any sustainable pressure. They pulled a goal back out of the blue and didn’t create too much. My second goal just before the end was redemption and settled the game.

DFB.de: What happened after the win?

Junglas: We celebrated with our fans. But we had to be sensible because the games keep on coming. It was relatively quiet in the changing room. You could tell that everyone was pretty exhausted. We went beyond our limits but that has to happen if you want to beat a Bundesliga side as a team from the third divison.

DFB-de: How was the mood this morning during the warm down?

Junglas: My legs were pretty sore. They gave everything last night. But after such a victory everything is a lot easier. The mood is very good, there’s so much self confidence. We are having a great run. We need to make sure we don’t slack off; on the contrary we want to push on.

DFB.de: The draw takes place on Sunday and Arminia are naturally underdogs against seven Bundesliga teams. Who are you dreaming of now?

Junglas: We’ll take whoever, it doesn’t matter who we get. We want to celebrate another great win, but nobody should be dreaming of a final in Berlin yet.

DFB.de: You still need to win two more games for that...

Junglas: ...exactly. But we are Arminia Bielefeld. We are a third division side. For us, we have done brilliant to get this far, even if we don’t win those two games.

DFB.de: On Sunday the 3. Liga continues against Borussia Dortmund II. Is it difficult to switch your focus back to the league?

Junglas: No. We all know that we need to focus our attention on the championship. It’s imperative for us as a club that we get ourselves back in the 2. Liga. We will need to give everything and work hard to achieve that. You need that just to stay alive in this league, but we have already managed that.

DFB.de: Honestly though, is promotion not a near certainty by now?

Junglas: We’re in a great position, no doubt about it. We have a nine point lead, but that’s only a small cushion. But that’s no reason for us take our foot off the gas, we need to continue until the end.
