Hummels: "It was a fantastic performance"

It was another exciting week of action in the Bundesliga. A host of Germany internationals were involved and they spoke to DFB.de after their respective games. Here’s what Marco Reus, Mats Hummels, Benedikt Höwedes, Holger Badstuber, Jérôme Boateng and Ron-Robert Zieler had to say on the weekend’s action.

Borussia Dortmund 3-0 Schalke 04

Mats Hummels: “It was a fantastic performance from us today. We can be very pleased and Schalke can count themselves lucky to have only lost 3-0. It’s staggering the amount of chances we missed. But we remained patient and determined. It was the right mix, and we got rewarded for it. We have finally managed to flip the switch, and we want to continue in the same vein.”

Marco Reus: “It was the match of the year, and we won it. There’s really nothing better. I think it was a deserved win. Auba and I always try to have a bit of fun. We had a meal together two days ago and that's when we came up with this goal celebration.”

Benedikt Höwedes: "We wanted to be compact and hoped that we could pack out the middle of the pitch. We knew that BVB are very versatile though. We weren’t able to cope with their attacks at all in the first half. They had a lot of chances and should have gone in front. We had a lot of luck. We were a bit more organised in the second half and Borussia struggled to create clearer opportunities. We pretty much put Dortmund in front ourselves with an unlucky deflection. Everyone knows what the Ruhr derby means to both sets of fans. We can’t excuse a poor performance like that."

Bayern München 4-1 1. FC Köln

Holger Badstuber: “It was hard work. I’m becoming more and more stable personally. It’s great that I’m getting playing time and match practice. Every game and every minute is helpful, but there are a few things to improve.”

Jérôme Boateng: “We started very well, but then we faded badly and allowed Köln to come at us far too strongly. They could even have equalised if it wasn’t for Manu. But we picked up the pace again and at the end of the day the margin of victory was deserved. However, we’re not entirely satisfied. We carelessly gave away possession far too often and our transitions weren’t good.”

Hannover 96 1-1 VfB Stuttgart

Ron-Robert Zieler: "Our aim was to win, which is understandable considering we were facing the team bottom of the table at home. Unfortunately, we didn’t achieve that. We had chances but they then went in front. Thankfully we equalised and then pushed for a winner, but we couldn’t find one. A point will do, but we wanted all three."
