Hahn: "We bounced back well"

A powerful strike into the far corner from André Hahn produced an ear-deafening roar in Borussia-Park on Saturday. The Borussia Mönchengladbach striker’s brace helped the Foals beat Bayer 04 Leverkusen, a victory which pretty much guarantees them a spot in next season’s Champions League. The Germany international has scored four goals in his last three appearances and spoke to DFB.de about his good form and international aspirations.

Question: You’ve arguably been Gladbach’s most impressive player this week…

André Hahn: I don't think that one player should be singled-out. The entire team helped to get us into this position. It certainly wasn’t just myself. We’re playing well at the minute, as this result highlights. We’ve bounced back well on many occasions this season. We always got back on our feet after something went wrong.

Question: Still, your last three goals yielded four points and thus fourth place…

Hahn: Obviously I'm very happy that I was able to play my part. It's great to be in the position we are in at the moment and I'm very proud of that.

Question: Are you Gladbach's symbolic figure this season?

Hahn: I think other players could also be mentioned in that regard, players who also had a lot of misfortune with injuries this season. I’ve been fortunate recently and am happy with how things have gone since I returned. The coach has given me his trust and he supports me. I'm just happy that I was able to repay him for this trust.

Question: A reaction seems to have occurred after your loss in Hannover, would you agree?

Hahn: It was definitely a game which took an unfortunate turn for us. We didn't produce the type of performance that we are capable off. We addressed that within the team and agreed that we can't keep producing this type of performances. We always have a goal and we want to reach it. That was made clear to us again on that day and we kept true to it afterwards and collected the necessary points.

Question: You are not unfamiliar with playing as a striker, having already done so for Augsburg and Offenbach. How did you manage the transition from being a winger to becoming a striker?

Hahn: I feel very comfortable in attack and the coach trusts in my abilities. Our playing style also suits me, because I can often make deep runs behind the opponents defence. But I'm also capable of combining with my team mates when I drop back. I've improved in that regard.

Question: Will it be your permanent position next season?

Hahn: The coach decides that. But I think I auditioned well for the job.

Question: How do you assess your chances of playing in the Euros this summer?

Hahn: Obviously I'm fresh because I haven't played as much this season. I can't influence what the DFB Team coach does. I can only try to deliver my best performances, score goals and play a part to the teams' success. Everything else is decided by others.

Question: Will you be celebrating tonight?

Hahn: We're going to approach this whole situation with calm. Obviously we are in a great position, but we still want to approach our final game with seriousness. We definitely want to win and then we can have a party.
