Hahn: "There's no reason to be disappointed"

Borussia Mönchengladbach lost 2-1 to FC Augsburg on Saturday. Borussia star André Hahn was facing his former side. After the game, the Germany international spoke to DFB.de about the reunion and the season far.

DFB.de: Mr Hahn, what was it like going back to Augsburg?

André Hahn: It didn’t go to plan. It was a good game and both sides had their chances. We took the lead early on but they capitalised clinically on defence errors. We weren’t strong enough in front of goal and consequently they won.

DFB.de: You had a great chance to score, albeit for Augsburg.

Hahn (laughs): Yes, that was a heart in your mouth moment. I was running back quickly; I think it was Daniel Baier behind me. I wanted to clear the ball but didn’t catch it right – thankfully Yann (ed. Borussia’s goalkeeper Yann Sommer) kept it out.

DFB.de: Did you know what to expect there?

Hahn: Yes, I’d played there for a year and a half. We knew what to expect from them. It was clear from the start that it wasn’t going to be an easy game. Augsburg have had a great season so far and they deserve plenty of credit. They play well and are where they are in the league for a reason.

DFB.de: Did the fact that you are in three competitions catch up with you slightly at the end of the year?

DFB.de: Did the fact that you are in three competitions catch up with you slightly at the end of the year?

Hahn: I don’t think so. We don’t get much of a rest – we have a lot of games and travel a lot but we have a big squad. It’s natural that levels drop towards the end of the first half of the season. We now need to recuperate during the break and make sure we are fresh and ready for the rest of the season so that we can hit the ground running.

DFB.de: In your opinion is 27 points a good total?

Hahn: Considering that we are still in three competitions I think it’s a good record. Obviously, it would have been nice if we’d won in Augsburg but overall we’ve started the season strongly. There’s no reason to be disappointed.

DFB.de: What are your aims for the rest of the season?

Hahn: Obviously we want to go as far as possible in the cup competitions and stay towards the top of the league. I think we all have the same aims. We’ll see what happens.
