The good news was announced by organisers of the charity gala “Ein Herz für Kinder” (A Heart for Children) on Saturday. Götze had donated the special piece of football memorabilia and was astounded by the result.
“It’s overwhelming. I couldn’t have even dreamed that it would make this much,” said the FC Bayern München forward in an interview with the Bild newspaper. “2 million is such a huge amount. The good thing is that the money is for a good cause and not just for the boot itself.”
Götze scored the World Cup final’s winning goal in the 113th minute on July 13th in Rio de Janeiro, clinching Germany’s fourth title.
