Gnabry brace earns Bremen victory in Wolfsburg

Werder Bremen took all three points away from their northern duel with VfL Wolfsburg, as Serge Gnabry’s brace fired the Green-Whites to a 2-1 win. It’s a big result in the relegation battle, with Werder now out of the drop zone, moving level on points with the Wolves. Both remain just two points clear of the play-off place though, and four points ahead of the direct relegation zone.

The hosts were stunned by two quickfire goals by Germany international Gnabry. The Silver medal winner from Rio opened the scoring after ten minutes with a deflected strike, before thundering in his second from close range in the 18th minute, taking the former Arsenal man up to ten goals for the season. Borja Mayoral pulled a goal back for Wolfsburg just 60 seconds later, but despite taking 27 shots, the Wolves were unable to find an equaliser.
