Frankfurt and Freiburg make the final four

1. FFC Frankfurt and SC Freiburg have qualified for the semi finals of the DFB Women’s Cup today, to join VfL Wolfsburg and Tubrine Potsdam who won their respective quarter finals yesterday. Frankfurt beat FC Bayern München 3-1, whilst SC Freiburg came on top 7-3 in a stunning match against second-division side FSV Gütersloh 2009.

Frankfurt’s victory over Bayern helps avenge the league defeat the Bavarians inflicted on them two weeks ago. Goals from Kerstin Garefrekes (47’, 65’) and Véronica Boquete (45’) gave Frankfurt an unassailable lead in a game in which their progress never looked in doubt. Melanie Leupolz scored for Bayern with ten minutes left on the clock but it as nothing more than a consolation goal.

The other quarter final was nothing short of remarkable. SC Freiburg eventually came out on top against Gütersloh 7-3 but needed extra time to qualify for the next round. The second division side found themselves 3-0 up at the interval but a stunning second half fight back from Freiburg ensured that extra time was needed to separate the sides. In the additional 30 minutes the Bundesliga side fired in a further four goals to complete what was in the end a comfortable victory.
