Fortuna Düsseldorf move up to second with win over St. Pauli

There’s no stopping Fortuna. In the Monday night game of the 2.Bundesliga, Fortuna Düsseldorf beat FC St. Pauli 1-0. Thanks to the three points, Oliver Reck’s side move up into second place for the first time this season and therefore occupy one of the two automatic promotion places. Michael Liendl scored the decisive goal in the 32nd minute and Fortuna are now unbeaten in their last seven games. The opposition from Hamburg remain on eleven points and sit in lower-mid table.

The 36,255 spectators at the Düsseldorf Esprit-Arena saw a second division game that was lacking in tempo, but was intense, and Fortuna had chances to settle the game earlier. Oliver Reck was forced into making only one change to his starting line-up, as Bruno Soares came in at the last minute after an injury to young centre-back Jonathan Tah. St. Pauli manager Thomas Meggle went with the same eleven that beat Union Berlin 3-0.
