Explosions by BVB bus: quarter-final against Monaco postponed

The Champions League game between Borussia Dortmund and AS Monaco has been postponed, after explosions in the vicinity of the German club’s team bus. The news was shared 15 minutes before the planned kick-off time on Tuesday evening. The game is now set to take place on Wednesday, at 18:45 CEST.

Following the departure of BVB’s team bus from the hotel to the stadium, the incident occurred shortly after 19:00. BVB CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke confirmed that centre-back Marc Bartra’s hand was injured in the explosion, and that he required medical attention.

“Bombs exploded in the vicinity of the team bus by the team hotel. The players are safe. No danger in and around the stadium,” tweeted BVB at 20:02 CEST. The bus is said to have been damaged, and the police were “around the area in large numbers.” The incident took place on Wittbräucker Straße, almost 10 kilometres away from Dortmund’’s stadium.
